O-No Sushi Toy

sushi-blue-1

A good vinyl toy should be more than a status symbol or dust collector: it should connect with you as an art form, and in an ideal situation, you should feel something. When I look at Andrew Bell’s upcoming O-No Sushi figure, I feel the polarity of consumption: desire and guilt simultaneously. Based on Andrew’s Never Look Back artwork, these toys will be one of the must-have items of the San Diego Comic-Con and summer in general. Each figure (exclusive blue and standard red) has articulated limbs, severed tentacles, extra eyes, sushi, bowl and terrific packaging.

Grenade x Oakley – Frogskin Collector Edition Sunglasses

grenade_oakley_frogskins_1

The retro classic Oakley Frogskins model has been a favorite for collaborative projects recently. Military-inspired label, Grenade, has also gotten their hands on working with the Oakley Frogskins to release their very own version of Oakley Frogskins.

The classic shades get the Grenade treatment in army green with the Grenade logo subtly hidden on the inside of the arm. The shades are tinted brown to match the olive frames and to coincide with the military theme. One of the greatest part about this collaboration is the Grenade dog tag and soft pouch that come with the shades. These collaborative shades are due to release soon, so keep an eye out on Grenade for them.

Photography: Mercedes & Porsche Museums by Michael Schnell

schnell01dailyicon

German architectural photographer, Michael Schnell, has completed a series on two museums dedicated to the car in Stuttgart, the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the Porsche Museum. The structure of the Mercedes Museum is based on a cloverleaf. The semi-circular floors rotate around the central atrium forming horizontal plateaus which alternate in different heights. The Porsche Museum is designed to convey a sense of arrival and approachability, and to guide the visitors smoothly from the basement level into the superstructure.

Void LP player, reliving the world’s smallest LP player

void-lp-player_01_dlwk8_17621

Drawing inspiration from the ‘Vinyl Killer’, the world’s smallest LP player, Korean designer Rhea Jeong has come up with a self-running record player that tales the form of a red sphere. Dubbed “Void,” the LP player makes use of a carrier and dock, which comes equipped with a magnetic and auto-calibrating control system to toss the LP up in the air. Other than the red sphere, the record player also incorporates an amplifier, speaker and a needle that spins around the record. Powered by a built-in motor, the Void electronically manages the levitation that you may control through the touch sensors on the front base, infusing the music with a new life.
