Mercedes Benz – 2010 SLS AMG

The wait is finally over as there are some images of the 2010 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG have floated onto the internet. Obvious resemblance to the classic 300SL “Gulwing” is evident in styling but that is where the similarities end. Front/midship V8 6.3 litre engine makes use of most of the AMG technology that is connected to a seven speed dual clutch transmission punching out 563 hp at 480 lb-ft of torque. German architectural photographer, Michael Schnell, has completed a series on two museums dedicated to the car in Stuttgart, the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the Porsche Museum. The structure of the Mercedes Museum is based on a cloverleaf. The semi-circular floors rotate around the central atrium forming horizontal plateaus which alternate in different heights. The Porsche Museum is designed to convey a sense of arrival and approachability, and to guide the visitors smoothly from the basement level into the superstructure.

Originally hinted at a few days ago, NIGO pops the top off of his latest and greatest toy, an iconic Mercedes Benz SL300 Gullwing with a transplanted AMG 6.0L V8 engine. Enthusiasts alike will probably already feel that the modernized powerplant is in itself sacrilegious but Nigo goes one-step further with the trademark Bape camo. The car is set to make a debut at tonight’s Bape Hong Kong 3 Year Anniversary Party.

Two months after Mercedes-Benz revealed the new E-Class sedan at the Detroit auto show (sort of), it will reveal further details of the coupe version at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
But isn’t the CLK, introduced in 1997 as a 1998 model, the stand-in for the E-Class coupe? Used to be. Not anymore.
The 2010 E-Class coupe shares design cues with its sedan counterpart: same twin-headlamp face, same Camry-esque taillights, same sharp fender arch over the rear wheels, for which Mercedes cites the Ponton Mercedes, introduced in 1953, as inspiration.
From photos of the car in profile, the E-Class coupe appears quite a bit more curved than the CLK. Several online reports have thrown around the Audi A5 as a shorthand guide.
There will be two models: the E350 with a V-6 engine (268 horsepower, 258 pound-feet of torque) and the E550 with a V-8 (382 horsepower, 391 pound-feet). A 7-speed automatic transmission will be standard.
Other than powertrain options (and electronic safety devices, like Attention Assist, for sleepy drivers), the only other technical information Mercedes is willing to divulge is the coupe’s drag coefficient (0.24), which, according to Mercedes, makes the E-Class coupe “the world’s most aerodynamically efficient series production vehicle.”
The 2010 E-Class coupe will go on sale in the United States in June, with convertible variants coming along early next year.

Detroit (ots) – The new star in the luxury segment made its first appearance on the eve of the 2009 NAIAS – as part of the Mercedes-Benz New Year’s Reception in Detroit, Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche presented the latest version of the successful luxury sedan in front of over 650 trade journalists from around the world. With the new E-Class, Mercedes-Benz is setting the new benchmark, particularly in terms of safety and comfort, as well as environmental sustainability and economy. Under the heading “fascination and responsibility”, the Stuttgart automobile manufacturer presented a further two new models – the SLR Stirling Moss crowns the successful SLR super sports car range with an uncompromising high performance model. And with the BlueZERO concept, Mercedes-Benz is leading the way in environmentally sustainable electric mobility. The intelligent, modular concept facilitates no less than three models with different powertrain configurations on the basis of one single vehicle architecture.
“The new E-Class is the safest, most comfortable and cleanest E- Class ever. It is yet further evidence that fascination and responsibility go hand-in-hand at Mercedes”, commented Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars at the exclusive preview presentation. “We are certain that the new E-Class will send a positive signal for the 2009 automotive year, and will be among the winners in the global market.”
